Lisa & Scott Rance

"He had many friends, and no enemies", yet met a violent death in Seguin over a hundred years ago. The trial for justice for the murder of a local family's Irish immigrant ancestor had introduced fifty witnesses - ordinary citizens living on the Colonization roads between Huntsville and Parry Sound in June of 1896. What has since emerged is "a story behind the story" - a fascinating set of circumstances of the industries, geographies and families of the time. Lisa and Scott will describe the process of discovery, which continues to be aided in great part by past residents of the District.

Migration: To/Within/From Canada
By Kim Short

Why did your relatives decide to emigrate and how did they arrive in Canada?  Why did they settle where they did?  Why did they move to another area?   And what records are available to help you answer these questions?
Genealogy has been Kim’s obsession for over 40 years! Her newest learning curve is analyzing DNA connections to determine common ancestors and break through brick walls. Kim served on the Executive of MPSGG for 10 years and now co-leads a Probus Genealogy group

It’s Not All Online:
Researching In Archives
By Melissa Barker

Genealogists use archives every day to locate records about their ancestors. Are there records that you are not accessing because you don’t know they exist? Not all records are online, indexed or microfilmed. Digging deeper in the local and state archives to find unique and relatively unknown records just might be the next step in your genealogy research.

Melissa is a Certified Archives Manager and Professional Genealogist, writes a popular blog and an advice column, is a reviews editor, and regular contributor to other genealogical publications.
