A Surname Inquiry
Harper, Madigan
To further my search, Im looking for any Birth information on Ernest James Madigan(my grandfather )born to Catherine Agathaen Madigan. Ernest took his mothers name as the father was an unknown Harper from Parry Sound Ernest was born sept 14 in 1919 and died sept 5 1974. Is there any way to find birth documents or church records which may show the fathers name? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found the birth of an Ernest James Madigan b 14 Sept 1919, father not given, mother Catharine Agatha Madigan. Her address is Fairholme and his was given as 18 Bond Street Toronto.
Now the confusion starts.
On a family tree I found an Ernest James Madigan, b 1919 and death date same as you gave, buried Dunchurch, but father is given as James Patrick Madigan and mother Amelia Shaw. Married to Mary Evangeline Reynolds.

Ben Dusty.
Nothing found on Weslayan Methodist site re a baptism.
1921 has a Benjamin Dusty, 34, living in York Tsp with his mother Harriett. He is the only Benjamin Dusty on the census.
Benjamin George Dusty, 1887-1961 married Catharine Agathean Madigan Aug 1941 .
Obviously Dusty his not his biological son.
I looked at the Drouin Collection as well with no luck.
I don’t think you will very find out who his father is unless someone in the family knew. Did he always live with his mother Catherine? I can’t find him on any census.

Hi Diane Ernest was raised by his grandparents (James Patrick Madigan & Amelia in Dunchurch McKellar area and partly by his mom Catherine (Dolly) and Benjamin Dusty(who wasnt his biological father)in York. She went to work in York and her grandson (my dad) believed Dolly was actually his aunt instead of grandmother People were led to believe that Ernest was just another one of James and Amelias children. I hope i explained that okay. Its definitely all very confusing. I agree.. i may never know the biological “Harper” father unless a baptism shows the father or dna provides information. Im not sure where he was baptised. They were raised Catholic.
