I am researching a family name. Nathaniel Tribe, his wife Mary (McCaul) and his 2 children Eva and Newton all buried in St Stephen's Anglican cemetery, Vankoughnet, but without markers

    I looked in 1921 census but could not locate her. The address of the place is St John’s Convent, 32 Major Street, North York, Ontario. Maybe if you contacted the convent they may give you more information on Katharine or at least tell you where you could look. Good luck. I will keep my eye out for her.

    Just googled St John Convent in Toronto and it is Anglican, not Catholic. Sorry about that.

      From Bracebridge Gazette 5 Oct 1911

      Last week the Gazette contained the announcment of the death of one of the most highly respected residents of Oakley Twonship, Mr. N. B Tribe was for many years a most familiar figure in the township and also in Bracebridge where he had the esteem of all who knew him either Socially or in business he was one of the pioneer merchants by his fair dealing and willingness to oblige he enjoyed the esteem of all the neighbourhood. Mr. Tribe was also Postmaster for several years, he was born in Woolwich England May 131842 and came to Muskoka 33 years ago he was twice married and leaves a widowtwo daughters and 3 sons Miss Kate of St.John Convent Toronto Miss Eva at home, Lyman, Jonathan and Herbert of Saskatchewan. The funeral to Vankoughnet Cemetery was largely attended.

      I cannot find what I sent you in August so some of this may be a repeat.

      Robert Newton Tribe b 2 Oct 1882 Lincoln Ont, aged 17, died 15 Jul 1900 of TB.

      Re Katharine Louisa. Nathaniel’s obituary says that she is in St John’s Convent in Toronto. A nun? She is from first marriage.

      1911 census has Nathaniel 69, Mary 61 wife, Eva daughter 24 or 26.
      Parents are methodist, Eva is Anglican and is a clerk.
      Eva died of TB at Bracebridge 10 Jan 1921, burial 12 Jan 1921 at VanKougnet.

      Muskoka Herald Aug 28 1930 “Another pioneer of Muskoka passed away in Bracebridge on Thursday Aug 21st in the person of Mrs. M. J. Tribe in the 84th year of her age. She was apprently in her usual good health till the morning of her death.

      Mary Ann Tribe age 77 farmer’s widow born England General Debility buried May 9th St. Stephens Vankoughnet, father a British Officer

      Of her first marriage with Mr. McCall two daughters were born, Mary (Mrs. E. C. McCutcheon) of Vankoughnet, Annie (Mrs. J. A. Boyes) of Strone Alberta. Of her second marriage two children, Newton and Eva were born both of whom died some years ago. The late Mrs. Tribe had a large circle of friends who held her in the highest esteem. Interment was made in the Church of England cemetery at Vankoughnet, Aug 23 1930.”

      Re Katharine Louisa. I don’t find anything for her after 1901. There is no death registration for her that I can find. 1911 census she is in St John’s Convent but what is her name?
      Try googling St John’s Convent and see what information is available. Don’t know if it would still be open or not. If not try the Catholic Diocese in Toronto.
